AI Titans urge Congress to ease AI regulations ✅ 

Top executives from OpenAI, Microsoft, AMD, and CoreWeave testified before the Senate Commerce Committee, urging lawmakers to reduce regulations, improve infrastructure, and expand market access to maintain the U.S.'s AI leadership over China 👀 

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized that AI could be “bigger than the internet” and called for critical infrastructure investments.

Microsoft’s Brad Smith warned that restrictive AI chip export policies might push customers toward Chinese alternatives, weakening U.S. tech dominance.

AMD CEO Lisa Su echoed concerns, stating that strict export controls could backfire, allowing other technologies to take over.

The executives collectively advocated for federal AI R&D funding, workforce development, modernizing the electric grid, and streamlining permitting. Their testimony highlights the growing competition between the U.S. and China in AI development and the delicate balance between innovation, regulation, and national security 🔐 

Apple is looking at adding Perplexity to Safari 👀 

Apple is exploring AI-powered search options for Safari, a major shift in its search strategy. Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior VP of services, revealed this during Google’s antitrust trial, stating that Safari searches declined for the first time in 22 years. As AI-driven search tools improve, Apple wants to keep its options open 📈 

The company has already held discussions with Perplexity, OpenAI, and Anthropic about integrating AI search features into Safari. Cue emphasized that current AI search tools are not yet good enough, but he expects significant improvements in the coming year.

OpenAI hires former head of the Facebook app 👔 

OpenAI has appointed Fidji Simo, the CEO of Instacart and former head of the Facebook app, as its CEO of Applications. Simo, who has been an OpenAI board member since last year, will oversee the company’s apps division, including ChatGPT across iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS ✅ 

Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, announced that this new role will allow him to focus more on research, compute, and safety. Simo will transition out of Instacart over the next few months before joining OpenAI full-time. She previously led Facebook’s News Feed, Stories, and live video, helping build its advertising business 📈 

Her appointment signals OpenAI’s expansion into consumer and commercial products, reinforcing its commitment to scaling AI applications for public benefit.

OpenAI developing ‘world’s biggest’ AI training facility 🏦 

OpenAI has launched "OpenAI for Countries," a global initiative aimed at helping nations build AI infrastructure and customize AI tools for local needs. This expansion is part of OpenAI’s $500 billion Stargate project, which initially focused on AI development in the U.S. but is now extending worldwide 🌎️ 

The initiative will partner with governments to establish in-country data centers and tailor AI products like ChatGPT for specific languages and cultural contexts. OpenAI plans to collaborate on AI applications in healthcare, education, and public services, ensuring that AI benefits align with local priorities ✅ 

Funding will be shared between OpenAI and participating nations, with an initial goal of 10 international projects in democratically aligned countries. OpenAI describes this move as a way to strengthen U.S.-led AI leadership while fostering a global network effect for democratic AI 🤖
