Google releases new Gemini 2.5 Pro model 🤖

Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview ranks #1 on the WebDev Arena Leaderboard, excelling in code transformation, editing, and interactive web app development.

The model achieves 84.8% on the VideoMME benchmark, showcasing its ability to process and interpret video content.

Google has addressed function calling errors and improved trigger rates, making the model more reliable for developers.

The model is accessible via Google’s Gemini API, Vertex AI, and AI Studio, and is integrated into the Gemini chatbot app for web and mobile.

Google’s decision to release this update ahead of schedule reflects its aggressive push to stay ahead in the AI race, competing with OpenAI and xAI, both of which are expected to launch new models soon 👀 

Windows 11 is getting a new Start menu this month ✅ 

Microsoft is rolling out a revamped Start menu for Windows 11, featuring a scrollable layout with categorized app sections for better navigation. The update also introduces a Phone Link companion button, allowing users to quickly access messages, calls, and battery status from synced smartphones. 📱 

The Start menu now offers three different views—list, grid, and category—to organize apps more efficiently 📈 

Windows 11 is getting AI actions in File Explorer, enabling users to summarize content or edit images directly from the right-click menu.

The app now includes "Rewrite" and "Summarize" features, allowing users to adjust tone, modify length, and generate summaries.

Microsoft Paint is introducing "Generative Erase", which lets users remove unwanted objects from images seamlessly.

These updates are currently available to Windows Insiders on Snapdragon X Copilot Plus PCs, with broader availability expected soon.

Google has introduced Simplify, an AI-powered feature in its iOS app that helps users decode jargon and complex text effortlessly. Using Google’s Gemini AI model, users can highlight difficult passages on a webpage and receive clearer, digestible versions without leaving the page. This tool is designed to make technical, medical, and scientific content more accessible 📖 

Currently available in the Google app on iOS, Simplify may expand to Android and desktop Chrome users soon. Google’s research indicates that simplified text improves information retention, but the company acknowledges the need for ongoing monitoring to prevent errors ✅ 

OpenAI abandons plan to become a for-profit company 🤷

OpenAI has decided to abandon its plan to transition into a fully for-profit company, opting instead to remain under the control of its nonprofit board. The decision follows discussions with California and Delaware’s Attorneys General, who oversee OpenAI’s nonprofit status and could have blocked the restructuring 👀 

Instead of becoming a traditional for-profit entity, OpenAI’s commercial arm will now be converted into a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), similar to Anthropic and xAI. This structure allows OpenAI to raise funds more easily while ensuring that its nonprofit board retains ultimate control over the company’s direction 📈 

The move comes amid investor pressure, particularly from SoftBank, which had tied its $30 billion investment to OpenAI’s restructuring. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized that the company’s mission remains unchanged: to develop AI that benefits humanity.
