FRESH AI NEWS
Elon Musk just offered to buy OpenAI 😳💵

Elon Musk has made a bold move by offering $97.4 billion to acquire OpenAI's nonprofit arm. This offer is part of an ongoing dispute between Musk and OpenAI, with Musk arguing that the company has strayed from its original mission of developing AI for the public good. He believes that returning OpenAI to its nonprofit roots would better serve humanity ✅
The offer comes at a pivotal moment for OpenAI, as CEO Sam Altman is already juggling multiple massive deals, including converting the company to a for-profit structure, raising $40 billion at a $340 billion valuation, and launching a $500 billion AI infrastructure project 📈
Musk stated, "It’s time for OpenAI to return to the open-source, safety-focused force for good it once was. We will make sure that happens."
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman swiftly rejected the offer, responding with a playful counteroffer to buy Twitter (now X) for $9.74 billion on Musk's platform.
no thank you but we will buy twitter for $9.74 billion if you want

OpenAI to launch an in-house chip 🤖
OpenAI is reportedly making significant progress towards launching its own in-house AI chip. According to a report from Reuters, OpenAI plans to finalize the design of its first custom AI chip within the next few months.
The company aims to send the design to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) for fabrication using TSMC's advanced 3-nanometer technology.
OpenAI's decision to develop its own chip is aimed at reducing its reliance on Nvidia's chips, which are both expensive and difficult to source 👀
OpenAI is also collaborating with Broadcom on the chip design, leveraging the expertise of former Google TPU engineer Richard Ho, who leads the in-house chip design team ✅
OpenAI intends to develop increasingly advanced processors with broader capabilities in future iterations.
If the initial design is successful, OpenAI plans to mass-produce the chip in 2026 📆
Google’s Super Bowl ad controversy 🤔
There's been some controversy around Google's Super Bowl ad for Gemini AI. The ad depicted a business owner using Gemini to write a website description, but it was later revealed that the text shown as generated by Gemini had actually been on the business's website since 2020, before Gemini was even launched. This led to accusations that Google faked the AI output in the commercial 👀
Google initially defended the accuracy of Gemini's response, but eventually removed the incorrect statistic and updated the ad to reflect how the business would handle the situation.
The company claimed that the business owner suggested having Gemini rewrite the product description without the inaccurate statistic 🤔
It's definitely stirred up quite a bit of discussion about the authenticity of AI-generated content in advertising.

Apple’s new Pixar-inspired robot 🤖
Apple has recently unveiled a new research robot that draws inspiration from Pixar's iconic Luxo Jr. lamp. The robot, part of Apple's consumer robotics work, emphasizes expressive movements to enhance human-robot interaction 🤖
The research paper highlights that robots should integrate expressive qualities like intention, attention, and emotions, alongside traditional functional considerations ✅
The robot takes the form of a lamp, similar to Pixar's Luxo Jr., with the lampshade acting as the head and the arm as the neck.
The robot responds to voice commands and gestures, and even performs tasks like shining a light, nudging objects, and playing music 🎵
Apple is exploring how these expressive movements can be applied to future smart home devices, potentially making them more engaging and user-friendly.
