BREAKING AI NEWS

OpenAI to buy Chrome from Google? 🤔

During Google's antitrust trial, OpenAI expressed interest in acquiring the Chrome browser if regulators require Google to sell it. The trial is centered on Google's alleged monopoly in online search, and separating Chrome from Google has been proposed as a potential remedy. Nick Turley, OpenAI's head of product for ChatGPT, stated that owning Chrome could help OpenAI introduce an AI-first browser, enhancing user experiences

Turley also revealed that OpenAI had previously approached Google to integrate its search technology into ChatGPT, but Google declined. Currently, ChatGPT relies on Bing's search data, but OpenAI has reportedly faced quality issues with its search provider. While OpenAI is developing its own search index, scaling this effort to replace external providers is expected to take years 👀

This trial underscores the growing competition between tech giants and the potential implications of AI and search technology in reshaping user experiences. The outcome could have significant consequences for market dynamics, innovation, and partnerships within the tech industry.

OpenAI x The Washington Post 🤝

The Washington Post has partnered with OpenAI to integrate its reporting into ChatGPT's search capabilities. This collaboration allows ChatGPT to incorporate summaries, quotes, and links from The Post into its responses, covering topics like politics, global affairs, and business

The aim is to enhance access to reliable journalism for users seeking trustworthy information on complex topics. This agreement is part of OpenAI's broader efforts to collaborate with over 20 global news organizations 📰

However, OpenAI faces legal challenges regarding copyright, with outlets like The New York Times raising concerns over content usage. As AI-generated content expands, questions about intellectual property and the ethics of such partnerships continue to emerge 🤷

Grok can now see things 👀

Elon Musk's xAI has introduced a feature called Grok Vision for its Grok chatbot. This allows the AI to analyze real-world objects, text, and environments using a smartphone camera. Users can point their phone at items like products, signs, or documents and ask Grok questions about them 📱

Currently, Grok Vision is available on iOS, while Android users need to subscribe to the $30-per-month SuperGrok plan to access similar features 🤔

In addition to Vision, Grok now supports multilingual audio and real-time voice search, enabling interactions in various languages, including Hindi and Japanese. Grok has also gained a memory component, allowing it to recall details from past conversations for personalized responses

Apple drops ‘available now’ from Apple Intelligence page 👀

Apple has removed the "available now" label from its Apple Intelligence promotional page following a review by the National Advertising Division (NAD). The NAD found that the claim gave the impression that all features of Apple Intelligence were immediately accessible, which wasn't accurate. While some features, like writing tools and photo editing capabilities, were available at launch, others were rolled out gradually, and some are still pending release 🤔

The NAD recommended Apple either modify or discontinue the claim, as the accompanying footnotes were deemed insufficiently clear. In response, Apple updated its promotional materials and removed the "available now" label by late March 2025. The company also discontinued a promotional video showcasing features that were not yet available 🤷
